Houghton Conquest Parish Council

Project Value: £40,000

The Vision

Houghton Conquest Parish Council aimed to enhance their local park with a state-of-the-art outdoor gym, offering a mix of hydraulic resistance machines and a street workout area. The goal was to create an inclusive, engaging space for all ages and fitness levels, providing residents with free access to high-quality outdoor exercise equipment.

The Solution

Caloo worked closely with the Parish Council to design and install a diverse outdoor gym, featuring hydraulic resistance machines for controlled strength training, alongside street workout stations for bodyweight exercises.

Key installations included:

Hydraulic Gym Equipment:

  • Hydraulic Push Up
  • Hydraulic Chest Fly
  • Hydraulic Leg Press
  • Hydraulic Leg Lift
  • Hydraulic Squat Machine
  • Hydraulic Leg Push
  • Hydraulic Bench Press
  • Hydraulic Triceps Press
  • Hydraulic Shoulder Press
  • Hydraulic Chest Press

Street Workout Area:

  • Vinci Play Street Workout Unit, allowing functional training and bodyweight exercises.
  • Arm Bike and Wheels, promoting upper body mobility and cardiovascular fitness.
  • Seatless Chest Press/Lat Pull Combi, providing versatile strength training options.

To ensure full accessibility, the gym area was surfaced with wet-pour safety surfacing, allowing wheelchair users to move freely between equipment.

Overcoming Challenges

As the installation was within a public park with playing fields, precautions were taken to protect the surrounding environment:

  • Installation was scheduled around dry weather conditions to prevent ground damage from heavy vehicles.
  • HERAS fencing was used to secure the area, ensuring public safety while other park areas remained open.

The Impact

The new outdoor gym and street workout area has created a versatile fitness hub for the community, providing a space where residents of all ages and abilities can engage in regular exercise.

  • Hydraulic gym equipment ensures low-impact resistance training, making it ideal for beginners, rehabilitation users, and older adults.
  • Street workout stations promote functional strength training, encouraging bodyweight exercise and movement-based fitness.
  • The inclusion of accessible surfacing has made the space fully inclusive for wheelchair users and those with mobility challenges.

With this new, fully equipped fitness space, Houghton Conquest Parish Council has successfully delivered an outdoor gym that supports health, well-being, and community engagement for years to come.
