Mayfield School

Project Value: £57,521.80

From Vision to Reality at Mayfield School

The Vision

Mayfield School aimed to enhance its outdoor spaces by introducing dedicated areas for fitness, inclusive play, and musical engagement. The goal was to install an outdoor gym, complemented by safe surfacing and fencing, while also incorporating wheelchair-accessible play equipment and outdoor musical instruments to ensure a fully inclusive environment.

The Solution

Caloo designed and installed three distinct zones within the school grounds, each offering a unique and engaging experience for students.

Outdoor Gym Area

A range of cardiovascular and strength-based gym equipment was installed to encourage physical activity and support student well-being. The gym area was surfaced in wet-pour for safety and enclosed with bow-top fencing to ensure security and controlled access.

Installed gym equipment included:

  • Skier
  • Air Walker
  • Rider
  • Body Twist
  • Cardio Boxes
  • Arm Bike
  • Stepper

Inclusive Play Zone

To ensure children of all abilities could enjoy active outdoor play, a fully accessible play space was developed, featuring:

  • ManDDAla wheelchair-accessible roundabout
  • Wheelchair swing
  • Smooth wet-pour surfacing for barrier-free movement

Musical Play Zone

A dedicated outdoor musical area was introduced to stimulate creativity and sensory engagement. This space was surfaced with artificial grass for durability and year-round use.

Installed musical instruments included:

  • Quintet Musical Ensemble, offering a variety of sounds and interactive experiences.

Overcoming Challenges

The project was scheduled during school holidays to minimise disruption and ensure a safe and efficient installation process. Once the equipment was installed, the surfacing was laid to complete each area, ensuring a seamless and safe finish.

The Impact

The new play, gym, and music spaces have transformed Mayfield School’s outdoor environment, providing:

  • A fully inclusive play area, ensuring children of all abilities can engage in fun, active play.
  • A dedicated fitness zone, supporting physical activity and student well-being.
  • An interactive musical zone, encouraging creative and sensory development.

The revitalised outdoor spaces now offer students exciting new opportunities for play, fitness, and creativity, making the school’s environment more engaging, inclusive, and enjoyable.
