The Vision
Oakfields Preparatory School sought to transform its outdoor space into an engaging, multi-functional play and learning environment. The project underwent several design variations as the school governors deliberated on the final vision. Caloo provided multiple concepts and worked closely with the school’s architect to ensure the design seamlessly integrated with new construction plans.
The Solution
After extensive collaboration, Caloo delivered a diverse and imaginative play space featuring:
- A Mushroom Seat and Mud Kitchen, encouraging social interaction and creative play.
- A Fable Telling Area, providing a dedicated space for storytelling and group learning.
- A Sleeper Tunnel with Steps and a Vinci Robinia Multi-Play Unit, adding opportunities for adventure and exploration.
- A Wavy Bridge and Clamber Stack Sorella, promoting balance, coordination, and active play.
- A Mound with Concrete Skim and Tunnel, adding depth and movement to the play environment.
- Nike Grind Wet-Pour Surfacing and Grass Matting, ensuring safety and accessibility throughout the space.
Overcoming Challenges
The design approval process was a key challenge, with multiple revisions needed to align with the school governors’ vision. Caloo remained flexible and responsive, offering tailored solutions until the perfect design was agreed upon. Additionally, our team worked alongside the school’s architect to ensure seamless integration with ongoing construction work.
The Impact
